Propofol
Indications/Uses
Induction & maintenance of general anesth.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Slow bolus inj or infusion Usual dose: Adult 2-2.5 mg/kg. Childn >8 yr 2.5 mg/kg. <8 yr ≥2.5 mg/kg. Maintenance dose: Adult 4-12 mg/kg/hr as continuous infusion or repeat bolus inj dose of 25-50 mg. Childn 9-15 mg/kg/hr. Elderly, debilitated or ASA III/IV patients Induction of general anesth 20 mg/10 sec (1-1.5 mg/kg). Maintenance of general anesth 50-100 mcg/kg/min (3-6 mg/kg/day).
Special Precautions
Patients w/ cardiac, resp or renal impairment, hypovolemia, fat metabolism disorder, elevated baseline ICP. May impair ability to drive or operate machinery. Pregnancy & lactation. Childn <3 yr. Elderly, debilitated or ASA grade III or IV patients.
Adverse Reactions
Hypotension, transient apnea may occur during anesth induction; nausea, vomiting, headache may occur during recovery.
Drug Interactions
Opioids, CNS depressants eg, potent analgesics.
